How we work with schools
Our 400 staff work hard to serve 11,000 healthy meals per day, making sure your needs are catered for and your kitchen runs smoothly.
School catering contracts
At Nottingham Catering, we recognise that school budgets are coming under increased pressure year on year, so we pride ourselves on being able to offer a bespoke service for each school and have a range of contract types to fit with your organisational needs.
We can provide quotations for single schools or academies, or schools as part of a Multi Academy Trust or group, to ensure the best value is achieved for large scale contracts.
Please contact us and we will arrange for a mutually convenient time to visit your school and discuss your needs.
Encouraging school meal uptake
We do not apply a 'one size fits all' methodology to our menus and develop a bespoke menu for each school. We believe that being as flexible as possible will engage the children and encourage uptake in school meals.
We actively seek to ensure as many pupils as possible enjoy a nutritious school meal every day. We liaise with the school and its pupils, including feedback from the Student Council, to amend or replace any menu items that are unpopular.
We offer a tasting session during parents evening, enabling the parents to sample the food we serve their children, allowing them to make an informed decision about switching from packed lunch to school meals.
Promoting healthy eating
We have many years’ experience of providing catering services in schools and were one of the first education catering providers to offer an innovative fresh, local and healthy menu. We have incorporated the new school food standards that came into force in January 2015 to encourage children to develop healthy eating habits and ensure they get the energy and nutrition they need across the whole school day. In accordance with the guidance set out in these standards, we ensure that our food looks and tastes fantastic. One of our techniques is to make food colourful by using different vegetables.
We understand that rewarding children can help steer their menu choices, and therefore we provide reward stickers to children if they try something new and healthy. This has been a great success and will be a method that we continue to use in schools to encourage healthy eating.
